Lumix GH5, the pinnacle of Hybrid Camera technology
When Panasonic Lumix launched the
Panasonic Lumix GH4
in the May of 2014, many felt that this was it. It was the pinnacle of hybrid
cameras. It definitely could not be beaten. It was the optimum cross between a 4K
video recording camera and a 4K still camera. But then competitors caught up.
The pressure was on Panasonic Lumix to do something big. And something big they
did indeed. Something that changed the world of imaging all over again. They launched
the Panasonic Lumix GH5.
It was a game changer on so many
levels. It truly was the flagship camera that a brand like Panasonic Lumix
deserved. It left the Panasonic Lumix GH4 so far behind that competitors just
couldn’t anticipate it. Just a breakdown of the capabilities of the Panasonic Lumix GH5
will give you an idea of just how good it really is.
It comes in a splash proof/ dust proof/ freeze proof rigged
design. Made with a magnesium alloy full die-cast armour frame the GH5 is a
deceptively lightweight and exceptionally durable camera while maintaining its
compactness. Basically this camera is built to withstand anything you can.
The Lumix GH5 comes with a shutter
unit that can handle up to 200,000 shutter releases. It also offers an
impressive maximum shutter-speed at 1/8000, which enables you to capture in the
spur-of-the-moment shots. Pair it with some fast aperture lenses and what you
get is an impressive de-focus.
As a 4K video recording camera
the Lumix GH5 has little competition. Its ability to capture ultra-smooth 4K
60p/50p videos, means that you can capture videos with excellent motion
compensation and slow down footage without losing detail. It also helps in
superb panning control.
Another thing that adds to the
Lumix GH5’s capability as an ace 4K video recording camera
is its internal 4:2:2 10-bit 4K video recording. The biggest benefit of the
10-bit recording is that video it is able to render subtleties without the
problem of banding. This camera truly set the new precedent in guerrilla style
filmmaking.
With regard to its still
photography capabilities, the Lumix GH5 has the new 6K photo mode that allows
one to capture at 30fps, to enable you to capture moments in stunning 6K
clarity. It also has the standard Lumix G series USPs of the post focus mode
and focus stacking that enables one to up their photography game.
But the massive feature that sets
the Lumix GH5 apart is the 5-Axis Dual I.S. II in-camera stabilization. The
5-Axis Dual I.S. II compensates intelligently, even for lenses that don’t come
equipped with Optical Image Stabilization. The Lumix GH5 manages to almost
eliminate both body and lens shake.
